Van mows down pedestrians in ‘attack’ near London mosque

A man driving a van has ploughed into pedestrians near a Muslim centre in north London, killing at least one person and injuring 10 in what Prime Minister Theresa May said police were treating as a “potential terrorist attack”.

Police were called at 00.20 on Monday to reports of a vehicle collision with pedestrians on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park. Counterterrorism police are investigating the attack.

A 48-year old white man was arrested in relation to the attack, police said. “He has been taken to hospital as a precaution, and will be taken into custody once discharged. He will also be subject of a mental health assessment,” police said.

It was the third incident in London in as many months involving vehicles being driven at pedestrians, following terrorist attacks on Westminster Bridge and London Bridge.

Mrs May said: “Police have confirmed this is being treated as a potential terrorist attack. I will chair an emergency meeting later this morning.All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services on the scene.”

Tthe Metropolitan Police said on Monday morning one man was pronounced dead at the scene, adding that eight people had been taken to hospital and a further two were treated at the scene for minor injuries…
