Safe drinking wFater is freely available \u2018on tap\u2019 whenever and wherever we need it, while huge amounts are being wasted \u2013 flushed or poured away with little thought! But things are changing: as our industrial and agricultural demand has grown, water stress,<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> water poverty,<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> water shortages<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> and even theft<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> are becoming more widespread.
