Our universe is an ever-changing web of abundant energy, it is a central aspect of life and all human activity. Yet if we see energy through the lens of our economic activity, it appears as a limited commodity. In this future energy technology timeline, we wish to cast a look at the current energy transition, but also at how humanity in the future might harness more of the available energy.<\/p>\n
The world is now committed to eliminate the adverse and negative side effects of our energy technologies and this will induce changes on a scale never seen before. This is one aspect of the current global systemic crisis and it threatens to produce a state of energy scarcity as technological progress will be slow to fill the gap. Devising and developing the technological processes needed to harvest energy will require dedicated research and development[1]<\/a>. Consequently, this timeline aims to help us rationalize the necessary decisions that need to be made now. The dates within the timeline are intended to indicate where these transitions will be located in the medium (2025-2040) or longer (2040-) terms, while \u201cP\u201d or \u201cD\u201d indicate whether the technology is mainly a Primary source or a storage and Distribution technology.\t\t
