In conclusion, we would like to share some of the comments left by our readers in the survey on the future energy sources, which you will find in the appendix of this issue. However, the comment below invites us to continue our work on the subject:<\/p>\n

This is a transnational and national geopolitical and sociopolitical puzzle that fails to make sense of the signs of the times. Its political implications urgently need to be studied by the GEAB. This is likely to be a decisive exercise for LEAP (as well as for our societies in the Global North). One or two issues are not enough to address this question. Today’s world cannot be understood without this context! (There are obviously a thousand and one variables to consider; I am not oversimplifying, but the main one is undoubtedly the decline, or even collapse, of our societies)<\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Une solution possible passe par une combinaison de nombreux facteurs : un syst\u00e8me politique mondial permettant de traiter le probl\u00e8me \u00e0 l’\u00e9chelle plan\u00e9taire, une r\u00e9invention des syst\u00e8mes \u00e9conomiques, politiques et des modes de vie pour permettre \u00e0 la fois une diminution drastique de la population mondiale afin d’atteindre un \u00e9quilibre \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, une meilleure ma\u00eetrise des consommations, et une offre \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique mixte incluant le nucl\u00e9aire (fission) pour la p\u00e9riode de transition.<\/li>\n
  2. We will need more energy in the future, natural resources can’t fill in that void. We need more innovation across the full spectrum. Not an easy transition and it will take time.<\/li>\n

L’\u00e9nergie, c’est le temps long ; il faut un plan \u00e0 100 ans, pas d’enfantillages ni de cadeaux d’all\u00e9geance aux Allemands en fermant d\u00e9finitivement des centrales nucl\u00e9aires. En effet, les Allemands, moins b\u00eates, ont conserv\u00e9 la possibilit\u00e9 de red\u00e9marrer leurs centrales nucl\u00e9aires, qui sont simplement en veille.<\/li>\n
  4. Les sources d’\u00e9nergie du futur existent d\u00e9j\u00e0, car il faut largement un demi-si\u00e8cle pour ajouter chaque nouvelle source qui compl\u00e8te les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes.<\/li>\n
  5. The most important energy source we need is the design of a new economy that does not need to grow. There are no technical solutions to a problem that is social and economic.<\/li>\n
  6. Nous n’avons pas de th\u00e9orie \u00e9conomique pour la d\u00e9croissance, il n’y a m\u00eame pas de th\u00e8ses sur le sujet. Les seules courbes qui semblent solides sont celles du rapport Meadows. Le capitalisme actuel n\u00e9cessite une croissance sup\u00e9rieure aux taux d’int\u00e9r\u00eat, donc plus d’\u00e9nergie (le PIB \u00e9tant globalement \u00e9gal \u00e0 la consommation d’\u00e9nergie). Le capital \u00e9tant un surplus inutile \u00e0 son possesseur, il est lou\u00e9 (plac\u00e9) contre un taux d’int\u00e9r\u00eat. Sans croissance suffisante, il n’y a pas de d\u00e9passement du taux d’int\u00e9r\u00eat : ruine du pr\u00eateur comme de l’emprunteur (pour simplifier). Nous sommes au bout de toutes les sources fossiles sauf le charbon, mais cela viendra (les p\u00e9troles exotiques nous gardent un petit plafond, mais le Permian a atteint son pic au Texas). Nous n’avons pas assez de cuivre pour fabriquer toutes les voitures \u00e9lectriques du monde et le reste. Il va falloir retourner aux champs ; la seule croissance possible \u00e9tant l’aubaine solaire qui fait cro\u00eetre les plantes avec un rendement constant de 2% (sauf carbonif\u00e8re).<\/li>\n
  7. For more than 50 years we have done nothing in relation to the limits to growth, to the biophysical and ecosystem limits. So, the energetic and material degrowth is already here. That is the piece of the transnational and national geo and socio-political puzzle that is missing to make sense of the sign of the times. The political implications of this fact must be urgently addressed by the GEAB. This is probably the last test for LEAP (also for our societies in the global north). One number, nor two, is not enough to address this question. Today’s world cannot be understood without this context! (Obviously there are 1001 variables to consider, I am not oversimplifying; but without a doubt the main one is the degrowth in, if not collapse, our societies).<\/li>\n
  8. Le pic des ressources fossiles nous pousse vers la d\u00e9croissance, limitant le PIB (hors prostitution et stup\u00e9fiants). Nous n’avons pas de mod\u00e8le \u00e9conomique pour la d\u00e9croissance, car le capitalisme suppose une croissance infinie. Il n’y a pas de saut \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique ou technologique en vue dans moins de deux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations (et c’est en \u00e9tant optimiste), voire pas du tout. M\u00eame les fus\u00e9es de Musk volent avec des copies am\u00e9lior\u00e9es des moteurs russes des ann\u00e9es 1960.<\/li>\n
  9. In my opinion, controlled degrowth applied to energy would be a good option to opt in occident and first world from now on.<\/li>\n

Je pense que l’aspect le plus important \u00e0 creuser n’est pas une nouvelle solution magique, mais bien de revoir les modes de vie pour \u00e9conomiser l’\u00e9nergie \u00e0 tous les niveaux de la vie humaine. M\u00eame si je crains que cela ne se fasse pas, car il faudra pour cela remettre en cause le capitalisme et donc \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s tous les poss\u00e9dants…<\/li>\n

Au-del\u00e0 des “nouvelles” sources d’\u00e9nergie plus ou moins pertinentes, ce serait bien de poser aussi la question de notre consommation d’\u00e9nergie et en particulier de la part de la consommation affect\u00e9e \u00e0 des trucs parfaitement inutiles … Donc, et dit autrement, trouver plus de sources d’\u00e9nergie, c’est bien, trouver des solutions pour en consommer moins, c’est mieux. Mais je sens que je suis un peu d\u00e9connect\u00e9 des usages et “besoins” du monde financier l\u00e0, d’un seul coup …<\/li>\n
  12. Hydrogen created by solar\/wind energy will be the energy carrier for Mobility. Nuclear and Geothermal energy will be the sources for non-intermittent energy supplies.<\/li>\n
  13. L’objectif devrait \u00eatre de combiner intelligemment plusieurs sources d’\u00e9nergie, y compris une part de combustibles fossiles. En r\u00e9sum\u00e9 : une approche hybride, adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 l’objectif et au mode d’utilisation de l’\u00e9nergie. Il faut sortir des mono-strat\u00e9gies.<\/li>\n
  14. \u00c9tablir les priorit\u00e9s d’utilisation et les contraintes\/limites qui leur sont associ\u00e9es permettra de fixer les r\u00e9glementations \u00e0 imposer.<\/li>\n
  15. In my opinion there will be no significant new emerging energies, being the most challenging aspect how will we distribute with justice all over the planet the reducing amount of net energy available in the coming years.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
