Japan-Europe: A promising tech alliance <\/strong><\/p>\n

The emergence of a Japan-Europe technology corridor could become one of the major drivers of global innovation in the coming years. Since 2019, more than \u20ac33 billion in Japan-linked investment has been injected into European start-ups, representing around 6% of all venture capital invested in Europe[1]<\/a>. This trend has accelerated recently, as Japanese investment in European deep tech and AI has doubled since 2023, with nearly 70% of capital committed now focused on these sectors. European start-ups specialising in robotics, advanced materials, quantum computing, batteries and smart logistics \u2013 notably Tozero, VSParticle, HIVED, IQM and Varjo \u2013 are particularly attracting this capital[2]<\/a>. Several factors explain this convergence: the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement signed in July 2025 has strengthened investment flows and supports annual bilateral trade exceeding \u20ac200 billion. Furthermore, Europe has a structural advantage in scientific research \u2013 notably through its universities and deep-tech spin-offs[3]<\/a>, while Japan brings industrial expertise and manufacturing power. Japanese discipline and European rigour should logically make for a winning combination!<\/p>\n

Market myopia: When geopolitics strikes\u2026 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Investors, keep your eyes wide open: the markets have this incredible ability to ignore war\u2026 until the day energy gets in the way. Since 1945, the twenty major conflicts have caused the S&P 500 to fall by\u2026 6% on average. And then? Back to normal in less than a month. As if geopolitics were nothing more than a bad cup of coffee in the morning. But there is a but<\/em> here: oil. That\u2019s when everything changes (e.g. the Yom Kippur War, the 1973 oil crisis, when the markets stopped laughing[4]<\/a>). When global energy flows are threatened, Wall Street panics.\t\t
