The title addresses two connected questions. One answer, though: It\u2019s the System, Stupid.<\/p>\n

Let us understand what this means.<\/p>\n

Deadbeat, scofflaw, vindictive, liar, narcissist… one can go on and on. Even before his Presidency, Trump was never spared the most acid qualifiers. Nevertheless, he is also celebrated as a hero by those who saw in him the first elected official willing to dismantle the deep state, the first willing to address the national debt, the first stopping the flux of illegal immigrants, millions of them, crossing the borders for reasons as different as they are. Focusing either on the attacks to the person or on the cult of an individual who made it against the odds is equally dangerous. Three attempts on his life (who knows how many more thwarted by the Secret Service?), two impeachments (and a continuous threat of more), many lawsuits, and even convictions, are on record. As is the fact that they increased his popularity.<\/p>\n

Therefore, to focus on the person and not on the underlying factors that led to the Trump presidency is misleading. America, preparing to celebrate 250 years since its founding, or for that matter the system it represents, with or without Trump, is the real subject now. \t\t
