Commodities: Keep an eye on oil prices
Whether or not the Strait of Hormuz reopens, we believe oil prices will not remain at current levels for long. This new oil shock is not only a major brake on economic activity, leading to an inevitable stabilisation – at the very least – of prices, but above all it is accelerating all projects for the transition to all-electric vehicles: Uber is offering $4,000 bonus to its US drivers who switch from petrol to electric, and sales of electric lorries are skyrocketing in China… Finally, the subprime crisis began with crude oil at $130 a barrel, but that did not, of course, last.
