15 March – Vietnamese National Assembly elections

In a spirit of transparency and public engagement, Ms Nguyen Thi Thanh, Vice-President of the National Assembly, and Ms Vu Viet Trang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director-General of the Vietnam News Agency, launched the new special news webpage on 3 February in Hanoi, dedicated to the election of members of the National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term:[1]. This initiative comes against a backdrop of endemic corruption in Vietnam, which has been combated since Nguyễn Phú Trọng came to power and the anti-corruption campaign began in 2013[2], and highlights one of the key issues at stake in these elections. The second key issue concerns the country’s economic policy. General Secretary To Lam would like to follow in the footsteps of the Doi Moi (renovation) policy, which opened the country up to the market economy, with Doi Moi 2.0[3]. These issues, against an increasingly uncertain international backdrop, place Vietnam at a decisive juncture for the next hundred years, as the national press is keen to point out[4].
