The Existential Crisis of AI: Redefining limits, rules and humanity

INTERVIEW

After 30 years in technology, and more recently in blockchain, Federico d’Annunzio – an Italian aristocrat and entrepreneur, 4th Prince of Montenevoso and descendant of Gabriele d’Annunzio – is lucky enough to be able to look at both sides of the AI mirror. He therefore sees the opportunities it brings as well as the threats and vulnerabilities for humanity. The major dangers, in his view, represent the cognitive surrender (an existential risk to humanity) and data mutability.

Are these arguments strong enough to turn us into Luddists?[1] Certainly not, because technology develops its own antibodies, with blockchain already being one such example. To see more of these, legislation worthy of the name is needed, and quickly. In this regard, a legislative manifesto entitled European Digital Humanism (EDHU) is currently being drafted, on the initiative of Mr d’Annunzio, and we are glad to announce it in this bulletin. This article summarises the main points of an exclusive interview granted by His Excellency to Anticipolis.

BabylonIA is here to stay!

From the Code of Hammurabi to the present day, AI has in fact been part of humanity’s greatest dreams, and we have always understood this possibility and built it up gradually over time. In my book Habeas Corpus[2], I also look back at the entire history of science fiction (a field in which, interestingly, women have often shown greater imagination and forward-thinking audacity than men) and present AI – above all as a projection of the human desire to attain a form of the absolute. In this respect, it takes on an almost religious dimension, that of universal knowledge accessible to all. This is what we might call BabylonIA.
