Terra Cognita 2089. We map the multipolar world

In a world where the future is unfolding at breakneck speed, the GEAB is inaugurating a new section, Terra Cognita 2089, to refine its short- and medium-term forecasts and continue to reduce the degree of strategic uncertainty among its readers. The aim is twofold:

  1. Increase our focus on the multipolar world (space deployment) and
  2. Open up a wider page of observation of the future with this horizon 2089 (temporal deployment).

Terra Cognita 2089 is based on the idea that to celebrate a successful global repositioning in 2089, Europe needs to rediscover the curiosity it had for the world at the time of the great explorations.

This section will borrow from the principles of the ‘real-future’ method of political anticipation. Its description of more distant futures will be based in particular on:

  • Studying the strategic documents of countries and regions looking to the future (ASEAN, Saudi Arabia, UAE, African Union, etc).
  • Direct exchanges with the players involved in drawing up or implementing these documents.
  • Field observation of the changes actually brought about by these documents.

The GEAB will be the place where our Terra Cognita 2089 correspondents will regularly report on the fruits of their observations and the map of the century that will emerge as they explore.
