2030 – Artificial Intelligence in the service of Peace

While two hot controversial conflicts, Ukraine/Russia and Israel/Gaza, are setting the world ablaze on our doorstep, the primary actors involved are unwilling to engage in peace negotiations unless their adversary is completely defeated. In the case of Ukraine and Russia, this stance remains unless significant changes occur, such as the disappearance of Putin. Similarly, regarding Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the Palestinian people themselves often seek relief through ceasefire and negotiation, distinguishing their desires from those of the militant group Hamas. Despite these urgent circumstances, diplomats worldwide face a daunting impasse in their efforts to mediate and find a resolution. And yet for both, they have come from all parts of the world, in all sorts of possible formations. For the first conflict, there seems to be no way out in the short term. Zelenski’s arrogant stance is leading Europe to the brink, and today, instead of talking about peace, we prefer to arm ourselves for war[1]. It is not even certain that the second conflict will end when Israel has emptied Gaza of all human life, as Hamas is not only hiding in the Palestinian territories, AI will come to help track down the enemy[2], at the risk, however, that Netanyahu’s extremism will put an end to Arab patience. But if AI serves war, could it not serve peace and resolve hitherto insoluble conflicts through (shared) intelligence?
